As Deputy General Secretary of UEFA, Giorgio Marchetti is one of world football's leaders. Marchetti's journey began within Italian football as the deputy secretary of the Italian league (Lega Calcio) from 1991to 1997 before transitioning to General Secretary for a subsequent 7 years until 2004. His work for Lega Calcio spanned both commercial and administrative areas.
With a strong track record of success in Italy, Marchetti moved to the European stage in 2004 as Director of Professional Football and Marketing. He quickly rose the ranks within UEFA, rising to Director of Competitions in 2007, where he was responsible for all youth and professional UEFA club and national competitions. After another decade of success, Marchetti changed roles to Director of Football and UEFA Deputy General Secretary, where he oversaw all technical and developmental matters for the organization.
Marchetti is commonly seen in UEFA Champions League and Europa League fixture drawings as the de jure draw conductor for UEFA, or on the pitch as a member of the trophy presentation party in the 2020 champions league final between FC Bayern München and Paris Saint-Germain F.C.
